About the service

What a booster set consists of

A booster set takes water from a borehole, well or tank and delivers it to the house under pressure. It is built around the pump, the pressure vessel and the controls that switch the pump on and off.

The pump depends on the source: a submersible pump for a borehole, a self-priming surface pump for a shallow well or a tank. The vessel holds a reserve of water under pressure, and a pressure switch or variable-speed control decides when the pump runs.

  • Dry-running protection
  • Non-return valve, gauge and filter
  • Installed somewhere dry and frost-free

Types

Four kinds of booster set

  • With a pressure switch

The simplest set. The pump starts at low pressure and stops at high pressure, usually between 1.5 and 3 bar.

  • With electronic control

Starts the pump when a tap opens and stops it when it closes. Protects against dry running and takes little space.

  • With variable speed

The pump changes speed and keeps the pressure constant. It is quieter, uses less power and needs a smaller vessel.

  • With a storage tank

When the borehole yields little or the mains cuts out, a tank stores a reserve and the pump supplies it to the house.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which pump should a house booster set use?

It depends on the source. A borehole takes a submersible pump (Grundfos SQ, HyDrop), a well with water within about 7 m takes a self-priming surface pump (Conforto), and deeper suction needs an ejector jet pump. Flow and head are worked out from the number of outlets, the height of the house and the depth of the water.

How is the pump head worked out?

Add the depth to the dynamic water level, the height to the highest tap, the losses in the pipes and the pressure you want at the tap, usually 20 to 30 m (2 to 3 bar). We do the calculation when sizing the set.

What size pressure vessel is needed?

For a house with a standard pump, usually 50 to 100 litres. A bigger vessel means the pump starts less often. With variable speed a smaller vessel will do.

Where should the booster set go?

In a dry, ventilated room protected from frost, with access for servicing and a drain. If it is inside the house we also think about noise.

Why does the booster set switch on too often?

The usual causes are low air in the vessel, a burst diaphragm, a leak in the plumbing or a leaking non-return valve. We check them all at a service visit.

Can I monitor the booster set from my phone?

Yes. HydroSmart Box shows the pressure, water level, current and voltage on your phone and alerts you to faults.

How much does a house booster set cost?

It depends on the source, the depth, the pump, the vessel size and the controls. After a short call or a site visit we give you an exact quote.
